Painted in 2024. Acrylic on Canvas.
Inspired and referenced from Callie Shell’s photograph of First Lady Michelle Obama and President Barack Obama on the 2009 train ride from Philadelphia to Washington. The Obamas lovingly leaned into each other in a moment of rest and constant support. It was a magical experience recapturing the warmth and connection between our then First Lady, and the 44th President of the United States. Using black umber paint to cover the texture of a white coated canvas, I began with abstract strokes to develop energy and spirit as I sketched the embraced combined portrait. It was a precious moment connecting to the emotions of a couple that I remark upon fondly. The Obamas represents true love and leadership to the world!
