My portrait of Dizzy Gillespie was created in my family home in Chula Vista, California. My former husband was a jazz enthusiast with an extensive collection of CDs. This prompted me to head to the library and take out books about the Greats of Jazz. Back then, Gillespie was my first painting of a jazz soloist, and I feel like jazz took hold of my heart from then on.
